WHAT WE DO

SOCIAL EVENTS

Not only is our UoO Ōtautahi campus known for its stellar teaching, but it is renowned for its superb social events! CMSA Social Representatives on our exec work tirelessly to plan our infamous social calendar, including not-to-miss events such as Flat Crawl, Beer and Crackers, Beer Pong, Party Bus, the CMSA Med Ball and End-of-year class dinners. There is something for every student to enjoy and look forward to!

WELFARE

Welfare of our students is central to what we do here. Welfare for CMSA involves organising a range of wonderful events including Wellbeing Week, welfare panels and talks, picnics in the park and fun wellbeing activities to boost and maintain student morale. We are passionate about student welfare, and closely liaise with our Associate Dean of Student Affairs to ensure each and every student is able to access the support they need to meet their needs and goals.

SPORT COMPETITION

CMSA has an epic social and competitive sports calendar. From organised teams, to inter-year sports competitions, from the highly anticipated CMSA tramp and ski-trips, to new events such as Lawn Bowls (quickly becoming an annual crowd-pleaser!), students can always look forward to an action packed year.

ADVOCATE

Our executive team is committed to advocating for all of our students’ needs, whether that be academic, pastoral, or anything in between - we are the constant ears, eyes and mouthpiece for Christchurch Medical Students. Along with our Māori Tuakana Rep, LGBTQIA+Takatāpui Rep and our newly instituted Pacific Rep, the CMSA exec team is passionate about meeting the needs of every student within our cohorts. Education Representatives also frequently collect and report formal student feedback to medical school staff, and advocate for positive change on behalf of students.

CULTURE

CMSA has strong performance roots and is very proud of its entertaining cultural events every year. Whether you have a theatrical bone in your body or not, there is always hilarity to witness at the annual low-budget sister of Med Revue - ‘Clinical Revue’. The entertaining MAS-sponsored ‘Staff vs Student Debate’, and talented student musical performances at ‘Procrasti-jam’ are also always highlight events that Ōtautahi students can look forward to.
